This month, DM Minerals Group™ welcomes our new Human Capital Manager Mashilo Chipanda. Chipanda, a Tshwane University of Technology graduate, brings a wealth of experience to our team. The Limpopo native has more than 10 years of experience in the mining and minerals industry, working across functions in the human resources department.

Chipanda joins DM Minerals Group™ during a growth and expansion period, where she hopes to contribute towards ensuring gender equity across our business units. She says improved human capital development can contribute significantly towards ensuring the inequalities in the industry are addressed.

She hopes to use her expertise in human resources to solve operational and business problems to support the organisation’s goals during this period. Chipanda says criticism around the importance of the role and functions of human capital personnel are a major hurdle for her department; this is a narrative she wants to change during her tenure.

“I look forward to changing the idea that our department is inferior to other core functions of the business. We are all inter-dependent on one another and need to rely on each other to meet all business needs, and to ensure that we are able to perform our departmental functions optimally.”

Chipanda says youth unemployment and discrimination against minorities including women and black people are major challenges that the mining industry needs to improve on. She believes that a strong human capital personnel can help solve these challenges.
